DEEP AUSTRALIA

 DEEP AUSTRALIA

I introduced Australia and New Zealand before. Now I would like to introduce Australia in more detail you!

Aborigines

I told you Aborigines who came to Australia first and have a long history, more than 40,000 years.  It's 1788 that British people came and named indigenous people 'Aborigine'.  The 300,000 aborigines who lived in Australia at that time  belonged to more than 300 different groups and language. The 'new' Australians thought that because the aborigines moved from place to place, the land was not important to them, so they took a lot of aboriginal and and water. In fact the land and water was at the center of aboriginal life.

This difference  in thinking about the great land created conflict between new Australians and Aborigines. Thousand of Aborigines died in fight with British or from the disease that they brought to Australia. Between 1900 and 1930, the aborigines had to live far away from other Australians. They could owe own land, go to school with white children. There was no hope for the aborigines people,  and many of their languages disappeared. Now Australia is known as multiculturalism,  but it is worth noting that there is still some white Australian racism.

Natures
As you know, Uluru which is known to Ayers Rock is the most beautiful things in Australia.  It is 3 kilometers long and 348 meters high, but there are another 2,100 meters under the ground. Australia also has wonderful natures.
The Great Barrier Reef is the world's longest coral reef, is 2,500 kilometers. Part of reef are 20,000 years old, and 1,500 different kind of fish live there. If you go there on a trip, you can choose your Great Barrier Reef activities to suit you, snorkelling, introductory diving, certified diving, learn to scuba dive there really are so many great options.

Richness of resources
Australia is rich country and life there is good for most people. Where does many come from? Sheep, cattle, minerals, wheat, fruit, and wine are some of the answers. Sheep have been important since the end of eighteen century. Most Australian sheep are Spanish merinos which were first brought there in 1797. Now 20% of the world's sheep live in New South Wales and Victoria, and 25% of the world's wool comes from there!
Gold also made Australia rich in the nineteenth  century. Since then, Silver, other materials, and oil from the Northern Territory, New South Wales, and Western Australia have made millions of dollars for Australia. But not everyone is happy about it. Digging for minerals often destroys the land, and can also be problems when minerals are found on Aboriginal land.

Animals
Everyone loves the sleepy koalas. Like kangaroos they have a porch on their fronts for their babies. They live in eucalyptus trees, sleeping for eighteen hours and eating 1 kilo of leaves each day, but they drink almost nothing.
There are more than 800 kinds of birds in Australia. The Emu, which is 2 meters tall, is the second largest bird in the world. It cannot fly at all,  but it can run at 50 kilometers an hour.

I'm sure that you want to know more about Australia and go there! Let's go to Australia and feel Australia's splendor when we can travel safety!
